New Year's Resolution from the Adsense Blog

Still at a lost this New Year? Well, if you're an Adsense publisher, the Adsense Blog listed some New Year's resolution you could choose from. Although a little late, it's worth the try. (^_^)

1. Turn my custom channels into ad placements, complete with descriptive details to attract placement-targeting advertisers.

2. Regularly check my sites for compliance with the AdSense program policies.

3. Keep my address and tax info up to date so that my payments are accurate and timely. (And sign up for EFT if it's available to me!)

4. Place more of my ad units above the fold and on my homepage for increased visibility -- and advertiser appeal.

5. Share my AdSense expertise with other publishers in the AdSense Help Forum.

6. Opt in to text and image ads to make the most of the available ad inventory for my content.

7. Use the Manage Ads feature to experiment with removing the borders from my ad units.

8. View the Payments Demo and payments schedule with rapt attention so I'll always know when to expect my next payment.

My Third Adsense Payout

Yesterday morning when I signed-in to my Adsense account, I learned that my third Adsense payout has already been sent via Western Union. That day after office I went to Victoria Plaza mall to get it.

Good thing that Goggle decided to team up with Wester Union. The payout that takes almost a month before, now takes just one day for you to get it. My payout was sent on the 26th of this month but I didn't check my payment tab in my Adsense account so I just got it yesterday.

This third payout, which amounted to $104.61 (4,455.33 in Peso), is enough for me to buy a new wristwatch this Christmas. Maybe I'll wait until middle of December. There's a lot of sale by then. I might get a Casio watch for a lesser amount.


It was the last week of October when I passed my third 100 dollars mark. After this payout, I still have 40 dollars in my Adsense earnings. It will be carried to my next payout. I hope it will be on January next year. (^_^)

Family Safe Blogging

If you can't decide what topic is for adult and what is not, this latest post from the Adsense blog might help you.

Many of our publishers regularly ask what is exactly considered adult or mature content by AdSense policies. It's a lot easier to understand when we speak about family-safe content. As you may already know, only ads classified as family-safe will be displayed on AdSense publisher websites.

Our policy regarding adult or mature content may include any material that is not appropriate for all audiences. While this obviously includes full nudity or sexual activity, it may also include textually explicit sexual content, image or video content containing lewd or provocative poses, strategically covered nudity, see-through or sheer clothing, and close-ups of anatomy that would be inappropriate if shown nude. Additionally, topics such as sexual health and sex tips may be held to a higher standard of professionalism than content that isn't bordering on mature.

While it's not a sure test, we sometimes suggest that publishers ask themselves the following questions to determine if content is family-safe: Would I be comfortable viewing this content with my parents or children in the same room? Would I feel comfortable viewing this content if my boss walked up behind me while I had this content on my screen? If the answer to either of these questions is no, then it is likely that some advertisers would not be comfortable showing their ads on such content and we might consider it mature.

Google Adsense Ads Redefined

If you haven't noticed it yet, guys at Google made a new update in Adsense ads. They said this new update will lessen the accidental click that some site visitors commit when visiting a website or blog. This latest update caused Adsense publisher's eyebrows to rise (including mine).

Earlier this year we stepped back to examine the value users, advertisers, and publishers derive from clicks on content ads. As you integrate ads with your site's content and navigation, we want to ensure a positive user experience. We identified a few areas for improvement and began implementing changes, starting with our new ad formats in April.

Before this update, Adsense ads are clickable anywhere in the ad unit, but now, only the title of the ad and the url is clickable (see image below). This means that many publishers may see their clickthrough rate drop from this point on.

Waiting for Adsense Payment

Yesterday, my Adsense earning have passed the 100 dollar mark (today it's $103.24). This means that it will be days from now and I will have my third Adsense check. Good thing that I can now get your earnings through Western Union. It's much faster than the regular mailed check.

Looking back at my previous Adsense earnings, it took me eight months before I received my first check and six months after that my second check. This third 100 dollar mark only took me three months to surpassed. This means that my earning is improving. Although my goal to make 10 dollars per day this year is slowly slipping, I still have two months to do it. Who knows next year I might get lucky.

My regular earner is a blog (not this one) and a website. I will not enumerate those two regular earners this time, maybe next.

Western Union Adsense Payout

Good news to Adsense publishers. You can now utilize the ease of Western Union Quick cash system.

Adsense publisher can now receive their Adsense revenue through Western Union. This service is only available, as of this writing, to publishers from the following countries: Argentina, Chile, China (Mainland), Colombia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, and Romania. I'm sure they will broaden the country coverage in the days to come.

To receive your earnings by Western Union Quick Cash, here are the steps:

1. Sign in to your account at www.google.com/adsense.
2. Visit the My Account tab.
3. Click the ‘edit’ link adjacent to the ‘Payment Details’ header.
4. Select the Western Union Quick Cash radio button.
5. Click ‘Continue’.
6. Click ‘Save Changes’ to save your payment type.

Just make sure that the name on your account exactly matches that on the government issued ID card that you will bring to pick up your Western Union Quick Cash payments.

My Second Adsense Check

Last May 30, I posted in this blog my first Adsense check. Well, yesterday, my second Adsense check arrived. According to Google Adsense, they sent my check on the 29th of June.

It took nearly a month before this check finally came into my hand. I was beginning to wonder if this will ever arrive. I was starting to become paranoid about it. I thought to my self, "What if somebody got the it and have it en-cash on my behalf".

The check was PHP 5,743.32 or USD $124.53 in amount (not bad). I was ecstatic when I received it. It felt like "WOW". I think I just deserve this. It took me endless hours and many sleepless nights just to tweak and experiment with my websites/blogs to make it earn more. Until now, I'm still far from my goal this year, which is $10 a day in Adsense earnings.

For the meantime, I'll just enjoy experimenting with my websites and blogs. And with this second check, I can now pay for my driving lessons.

Adsense Resources for Newbie Bloggers

If you are a blogger, then you must know Google Adsense. I was introduced to blogging and Adsense at the same time.

Adsense is one of many ways to monetize your website. All my blogs and websites are monetize using it. I particularly like Adsense because of it's ease of use. It's like plug 'n play to your blogs and websites.

If you are serious about monetizing you blogs or websites, here are some free resources for you.

1) Beginner`s Guide To Google Adsense. If you are really new to Google Adsense, this beginner's guide is for you. In this guide you'll read the basics techniques.

2) Google Adsense 101. In this resource, you can read the some answers to your question about Google Adsense, including increasing Adsense earnings.

3) How To Build A Website. If you are feed-up with blogging, then you might want to build your own website. This guide will teach you the step-by-step towards your first website.

Google AdSense Vocabulary

Google Adsense is one of the most talked about CPC advertising online. This blog is even monetize using Adsense. In fact, it was Adsense that got me into blogging.

For newbies, abbreviations will sometimes hinder you from fully understanding Adsense. When you first log into your Adsense account and look at the report, you will see this abbreviations and immediately ask yourself what are those (trust me, I was like that on my first Adsense days).

I have met bloggers you have been using Adsense for months and yet ask me what are the meaning of those abbreviations. So I decided to blog about this. Here’s a list of the most common ones, and a plain-english description of what they mean:

Page Impressions
When somebody visits your website and loads a page in their web browser(IE, FireFox, Safari, etc), Google caount that as one "page impression". When that visitor, browse around and visit another ten(10) pages of you website, that's another ten(10) "page impressions". In short, "page impression" is the number of pages a visitor loads while browsing your website.

Page CTR
CTR stands for "click through rate" or "click through ratio". It the percentage of the page impressions that resulted in somebody clicking one of the AdSense ads. So, for example, if you had 1,000 page impressions, and those 1,000 page impressions resulted in 100 clicks on the ads, that is a 10% Page CTR (100/1000 = 10%).

Page eCPM
eCPM stands for "effective cost per millie". "Millie" means thousand. CPM is what the old world of banner advertisements used in pricing their ads. If a site had a $10 CPM, that meant that you as an advertiser would pay $10 for every 1,000 page impressions that your ad was shown on.

With AdSense, eCPM is telling you how much you are earning (or will earn), on average, for every 1,000 page impressions. If you have a $25 eCPM, that means you are earning (or will earn) $25 in clicks for every 1,000 page impressions on your site.

Google shows you this figure so you can get an idea of how much more they are paying you than a banner advertising network will pay you. I have some sites with eCPM values as high as $300, $500, $700 and more. That means for every 1,000 page impressions I’m earning $300-$700 on those sites. How I do that will be discussed later.

EPC
You won’t see the term EPC in your Google AdSense reports, but you’ll hear it a lot if you hang out on AdSense forums. EPC stands for "earnings per click", and just means how much you earn for each click. Your EPC will depend on the price of a keyword because Google only gives you a percentage of how much advertiser pay for that keyword. Naturally, the more expensive a keyword, the more EPC you gain.

Channels
By default, all of your page impressions and clicks are dropped into one giant bucket. By default, you have no way of knowing how much each individual site earned (if you have multiple sites), or how much each individual page earned, etc. "Channels" are Google’s way of letting you break down your earnings into "sections" so you can analyze each website or each page independently to see where the money is coming from. Google only lets you have 200 channels.

AdLinks (or Ad Units)
AdLinks, or Ad Units, are just another type of AdSense ad. The basic AdSense ad is a block of links with short descriptions that when a visitor clicks, you get paid. Ad Links are a little different. They show linked topics
that are related to your page, and when people click on those they are then taken to a different page and presented with a list of ads. If they decide to click on one of those ads, you get paid. You can see what AdLinks look like by visiting Google's Ad Formats page.

How I Was Introduced Into Blogging and Adsense

I was first introduced to blogging, when I signed up for Friendster. I made a blog on that website, submitted a couple of post and then, it went dead. Up until now, that blog is never updated.

Then, last year, a co-worker of mine introduced me to Google Adsense. It was like a wake up call to me. My eyes turned into a dollar sign. I said to myself, "Why didn't I knew this before".

I'm not new to designing web pages. Back in college, I was chosen to be a member of a team that helped design my school's sub campuses webasites. Had I knew about Google Adsense at that time, my first Adsense check would be much earlier. And I would have earned considerable amount of money from Google to this day.

A day after that first introduction with Adsense, I made my first blog at Blogger.com and then applied for Google Adsense. My goal for blogging that time was to make money through Adsense. Then just lately when I realize that blogging for money is bound to fail. To be successful in blogging, your first goal should be to write about what interests you, with making money the second goal.

With that realization, I came to enjoy blogging more than before. Of course I still use Adsense in this blog but it's just a secondary goal to me. If I earn money from it in any day, fine. If not, fine with me too.

You see, for bloggers out there. In your early day of blogging, try to enjoy writing about what interest you and you will be more happier when your earnings.

My First Adsense Check

Last December I recieved my first Adsense check. For me and for others out there, this is a big proof that there is really money in the internet. In fact, many blogger and webmaster are making a living out of the internet. Too bad that I discovered Adsense just last year through one of my officemates.

The check, which is 127.56 dollars in amount, is a product of my trial and error when I started blogging and designing websites since May 2006. Not really much compare to others who averages from hundreds to thousands of dollars in revenue every month.

If I hade discovered Adsense in college, I'd get more than this because I started designing website since college but stopped when I got a regular job.

Next month (June), I'm expecting again my second check.

This year, one my goals is to increase my revenue to 10 dollars per day. This days, I'm still averaging less than a dollar per day. It would require much work to reach my goal, but who knows I might get lucky this year. (^_^)
